Those attending a series of film screenings have the chance to sit on comfortable seating such as luxury cushions and bean bags while watching the big screen.

However, an article in the Guardian notes that Secret Cinema – which takes place in venues across the country – offers a slightly different experience than the traditional trip to the multiplex.

Showing classic films such as Blade Runner and Bugsy Malone, the action on screen is complemented by real-life theatre.

The publication notes that some 3,500 people dressed as Bedouins while sat on cushions to watch Lawrence of Arabia, with actors and camels appearing on-stage to recreate the action on-screen.

"At Secret Cinema, you're not just passively watching a film – the actors treat you as if you're part of it and you're connecting with the rest of the audience," founder Fabien Riggall claims.

But this is not the first time that cosy seating and watching films have been linked. Writing for Moviematics.com earlier this month, Neil Turner stated bean bags are "perfect" for watching DVDs on.

Expectant mothers may want to follow the comments of one publication and purchase a bean bag chair on which to give birth.

Writing for The Stir, Annie Krasnow points out that bean bags can form one element of the birthing plan of mothers-to-be, as they look to be completely comfortable when it comes to having a child.

"Giving birth is very personal and it's our right to do whatever we want," she claims.

Noting that "every woman has the right to a birth plan and a positive birthing experience" Ms Krasnow claims that in addition to bean bags, soft music, candles and dimmed lighting can also be used to create as comfortable an environment as possible for those set to have a child.

In an article for the Daily Mail in May, mum-to-be Anna Melville-James revealed that she sat on a bean bag while receiving a massage at the Titanic Spa near Huddersfield as part of "a weekend of ante-natal pampering".

Those attending a recent computer games conference in the US had the chance to sit on bean bags while they played some of the latest titles.

Writing for Seattlest.com, Gina Corsiglia points out that the Penny Arcade Expo – or PAX – saw Seattle's Convention Center "transformed into a gamer's mecca for the course of the three days".

Among the attractions at the event was the ability to play a demo of forthcoming first-person shooter Duke Nukem Forever, while fans had the opportunity to meet designers and artists and find out more about the creative development behind computer games.

However, it seems that bean bags also played a role in the gaming extravaganza. Ms Corsiglia claims those attending PAX were able to play games on handheld consoles while relaxing on "one of the many over-sized bean bag chairs".

But this is not the first time that an event in the US city has given people the chance to relax on bean bags. As part of the Seattle Center Movies at the Mural, the Mural Amphitheatre allowed film lovers to sit on such comfortable seating while watching special screenings of movies such as Twilight, Star Trek and the Princess Diaries.

Children attending one school in the US have the opportunity to sit on bean bags as they learn, it has been revealed.

A Denver Post article notes that the students at the Girls Athletic Leadership School in Denver, Colorado can choose to sit on a bean bag or inflatable exercise ball during lessons. Alternatively, they can stand behind elevated desks.

Once a lesson at the all-girls school is over, children get up off their bean bags and take part in brief exercises before attending their next class, as part of the school's aim to get them to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Children start the day with a karate, yoga or dance lesson, while 85 per cent are involved in after-school sports.

"We don't like kids sitting on their butts for too long," Elizabeth Wolfson, founder of the school, states.

But the Girls Athletic Leadership School may not be the only school to feature bean bags. In July the Scotsman reported that the library of the rebuilt James Gillespie's High School in Edinburgh will contain bean bag seating.

One actor has noted how he finds sitting on bean bags to be a therapeutic experience.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Luke Evans points out how he enjoys coming home at the end of the day to sit on a bean bag and watch his tropical fish swim around in their temperature-controlled tank.

The 31-year-old goes on to point out that his fish "have real personalities" and "incredible ultra-violet colours".

"You can hand-feed them and when you come in the room they'll come to the glass and follow you round," he adds.

Evans, who stars alongside Gemma Arterton in Tamara Drewe – due to be released this Friday (September 10th), claims that he enjoys the responsibility of having tropical fish, noting that "they're very hard to keep and temperamental".

But the actor is not the first high-profile person to possess bean bags. Upon being named prime minister in May David Cameron transported a large purple bean bag into Number 10 Downing Street from his home in Notting Hill.

Parents looking to create somewhere for their kids to do their homework in comfort may want to consider the role that bean bags can play in such a room.

Speaking to the Toronto Star, stylist Janette Ewen claims that a study area should be a place where children feel encouraged to do their schoolwork.

"They should be warm, inviting and creative places for kids to learn and have fun," she points out.

And it appears that bean bags could help to create such an environment. Ms Ewen reveals that upon creating a study room for one of her clients, she set up a reading area featuring two large bean bags.

"I interviewed the kids and their friends to find out what they liked to do and what made them feel comfortable and I designed it around that," the designer tells the publication.

Writing for NOLA.com last month, Karen Taylor Gist claimed that bean bags could be an ideal piece of furniture to place in a reading nook.

Those looking to create an authentic home cinema should invest in bean bags.

Such is the assertion of Neil Turner, who writes for Moviematics.com that such seating is "perfect" for watching DVDs in comfort.

"Line them up, dim the lights and you're ready to go," he points out.

And as Mr Turner claims that bean bag chairs are available in a variety of sizes and shapes, movie lovers should be able to find a chair that suits them when it comes to settling down to watch their favourite films.

Bean bags were also praised for being easy to move around the home and to store, with some "very reasonably priced" seats currently available to buy.

Writing in an entry for the Mom Logic blog last month, Lisa Riles claimed that bean bags can be a great item of furniture to sit on while watching films outdoors, particularly for young children.

One writer has pointed out how bean bags can be a useful form of seating when having guests over.

K Smallridge notes in a blog article for Very that bean bags are ideal for those who frequently have people coming over to their home, particularly if they have quite a small living room.

She goes on to claim that bean bag seating is "a great option" to have should children's friends come over to play or if people are welcoming visiting relatives.

The writer also states cushions are an ideal way to add a splash of colour to a living room and can make a major difference in terms of bringing in a sense of liveliness to a home.

An entry on the Le Jive blog last month noted that bean bags are a particularly suitable item of furniture for use at parties as they can be washed easily.

Those attending a play in Florida over the weekend had the opportunity to take in the drama on stage while sat on beanbags.

Between August 27th and 29th, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre hosted a production of the The Little Yellow Diary starring 12-year-old Emily Rynasko, the Palm Beach Post reports.

And the play, which was based on the diaries that its writer Patty Nieman kept through her adolescent life, incorporated the use of beanbags.

"The whole studio will feel like her bedroom," Julie Rowe, director of education at the theatre, told the publication.

"People can sit on the floor – there are beanbag chairs and poufs – like it is a slumber party," she adds, claiming that the stage will be decorated with things that are important to the character.

Earlier this month, San Marcos Local News reported those attending Perennial Dance's Menagerie performance at Texas State University's Jowers Center were encouraged to bring their own beanbags and other items of comfortable seating in order to enjoy the show.
 

When heading off to university, many students may be excited about finally having the freedom to decorate their room how they want, without any input from mum and dad.
