The co-founder of a children’s website has revealed how his office features a number of bean bag chairs.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Lane Merrifield of Club Penguin – an online virtual world for kids – notes that the “creative pod” rooms of his organisation are lined with large bean bags.
And with the company bought-out by Walt Disney in 2007, Mr Merrifield now oversees the development of all of the firm’s virtual worlds.
He goes on to point out that a meeting with executives from Walt Disney – the company which bought-out Club Penguin in 2007 – took place while sat on giant bean bag chairs.
“We are trying to create the same environment in our office as in our virtual worlds: fun, gracious, warm and friendly,” he claims, adding that he was keen to remind the Disney officials “who our real bosses are – the children that use the sites”.
But this is not the first time that bean bag chairs have featured in offices. An article in the Indiana Daily Student last month revealed that Bloomington-based consultancy SproutBox has several large bean bags as well as board games for staff to play on.
