Cameron moves bean bag into Number 10

David CameronAs David Cameron settles into being Britain’s new prime minister, he may have the chance to relax on a bean bag during his time in power.

The Daily Mail notes that as Mr Cameron and his family moved their belongings from their home in Notting Hill, west London to Number 10 Downing Street, a “huge” purple bean bag was loaded up into the delivery van.

While the prime minister, his pregnant wife Samantha and children Nancy and Arthur will currently live in the flat above Number 10, they will move into the adjacent residence at Number 11 once refurbishment work is completed.

As he takes time out from meetings and drawing up new policies, the PM and his family may be able to watch TV while cosied up on the bean bag chair, as the publication notes that a widescreen plasma TV was transported from their old residence in Notting Hill to their new home.

But Mr Cameron is not the only high-profile person to have a bean bag. Earlier this month, TV presenter Philippa Forrester told the Daily Mail that she chilled out on a bean bag chair while cruising around the Caribbean.

Pack a dog bed when driving this weekend, pet owners advised

Dog on HolidayWith the long weekend approaching, those planning on taking their pet away with them in the car should consider their animal’s seating options.

A Times-Herald Record article reports that dog owners should ensure that their four-legged friend “is a fit passenger by observing how he travels over the short haul”.

With the publication suggesting that placing a dog bed in the back seat could help an animal to stay comfortable, drivers should also make sure their pet has plenty of water.

“Rest stops need to be frequent and extremely carefully monitored,” it adds.

While the article refers to the Memorial Day weekend taking place in the US, with Britain also set to benefit from a long weekend due to the May bank holiday such advice on dog beds is likely to also apply to pet owners on this side of the Atlantic.

Last month, actress Sharron Matthews told Metro Canada how she keeps a pair of large dog beds in the back of her 2003 Ford Explorer.

Cushions ‘a popular piece of outdoor furniture’

CushionLuxury cushions appear to becoming an increasingly popular outdoor furniture trend, according to one publication.

As the Ottawa Citizen notes people are prepared spend more money on furnishing their gardens, they are now looking at hosting “bigger gatherings and outdoor dinner and cocktail parties”.

And as outdoors dining looks set to become increasingly popular as the summer beckons, the publication indicates that such a trend will see homeowners use large, colourful cushions as they eat, drink and mingle.

This kind of furniture could make for a much more comfortable alternative to folding aluminium chairs, which the newspaper claims seems “to have gone the way of the ice cream truck” and are no longer a sought-after seating option.

Earlier this month, the Times noted that the use of brightly-coloured cushions can prove an effective way for homeowners to spruce up their interior, particularly if in rooms which are decorated in neutral colours.

Refurbished children's lodge features bean bag chairs

A group of volunteers gave up their own free time to help convert a property in Texas into a suitable place for at-risk children, with bean bags playing a key part in the refurbishment process.

The Seguin Gazette-Enterprise notes how dozens of employees from the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) worked over the course of a Saturday to help build ‘The Lodge’ as part of the Our Day to Shine volunteer programme.

With the centre providing somewhere safe to stay for children between the ages of five and 17 who have had to be removed from their home due to abuse, the volunteers help to paint rooms and put up electrical fixtures.

In addition, the GBRA volunteers installed hardwood flooring in the ‘nook room’, a study area that is full of bean bag chairs.

However, this is not the only youth support centre to feature bean bag sofas.

Last month, the Eastern Daily Press indicated that the Victim Support Norfolk’s Great Yarmouth centre has a TV lounge lined with bean bags, as part of its aim of giving somewhere for young victims of crime to discuss any problems they have been facing.
